Are There Pests In My House? 3 Signs of Pest Infestation

August 17th, 2015

In Southwest Florida, we are forced to deal with pests most of the year due to our warmer weather and lack of severe winters. Some pests can cause great devastation if they are allowed to live inside your home unbothered. Once a pest infestation has begun, it is very difficult and frustrating to remove these stubborn creatures from the house.

That’s why it’s important that you take action early and get rid of them once you get the slightest hint of their presence inside the house. Below are some common signs of pest infestation that can cause great harm inside your house if left unchecked.

  1. Nesting Materials. The presence of nesting materials inside the house is a sign that pests have invaded your house. Dried twigs, shredded wood, or leaves are some of the nesting materials used by rodents to make a nest. Different pests use different nesting materials. You must use a flashlight and search every corner of the house – including behind appliances – for signs of nesting inside the house. If you are able to hone in on the nests, leave them intact so pest management professional can inspect them.
  2. Holes in Woodwork. Another sign of pest infestation is holes in the woodwork. Some pests like termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees, and rats dine in on woodwork inside the house. If you see visible holes in the woodwork, it might indicate that the pests have infested your house. Apart from visible holes, sagging floors or hollow wood when tapped also gives red flag of pest infestation. You must periodically inspect the woodwork to make sure that the pests are not gnawing away at your expensive woodwork.
  3. Droppings. Another obvious sign of pest infestation is droppings such as shed wings, fecal pellet, or sawdust. You must check the floors and corners of the house for signs of these pest droppings. In case you detect pest droppings, you will need to take immediate action to remove the pests from the house before they cause further damage to the house.
